If there are any interrnet novices who happen accross this, or if you just don't know what I'm talking about, please note that the title "Kanye West" is a link to an article on the subject. The other link in the original post leads to a comparrison of news stories on whites "finding food" and blacks who are "looting."

The one thing that I think about West is that he is honest. While his honesty could use better behavor I respect a lot of what he does in the industry that he is in.

True. I guess the real question I was trying to get at is the racial question. Some say it is more about poverty than race. Others say that poverty is an issue of race. Still others say that if the same thing happened in a white area, the response woul;d be different.

What say you to these things?

I'm not sure if it is a question of poverty or race as much as a question of sin. Isn't sin the real problem, the reason for poverty and divsions of race and gender and etc. Just a thought.

Ah Grasshopper, you very wise. Now what do we do with it? So easy to "Play the Blame Game," as Dubya likes to say. So poverty and racism are rooted in sin, yes. But what does that mean? How does that translate into practice?

Really I think the only way is slow, and hard. We need to be Jesus to others. And I know that has been said so many times that it has lost meaning. But it's true.

books?

Hi friends (and family)! I'm in the process of editing my old sermons and publishing a book that can be ordered on line. I also have a book of poetry that I wrote in seminary that I may consider publishing as well. Family members already have a copy. Just wanted to throw that out there in case any are interested. If you are interested, please post a comment in response to let me know. I'm going to do it just to get it done. I do not expect it to sell. Hearing that some folks are actually interested in the project might motivate me to get it done more quickly, though! Peace, Zach

I'm up way too late again. I wonder how many blog posts start that way? I'm at a house in Nag's Head in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Funny how God takes things that stand for pain and suffering, like the cross, and turns them into banners for victory. You see I came here for my honeymoon for my first marriage. Neither of us knew what we were doing. We had no business getting maried...both trying to fix ourselves through someone else's affection. I've been divorced from her for 11 years now. Really its almost a dream of a memory at this point. I'm now married to a partner God has called me to be with. I have two beautiful children, and I am sitting here listening to thunder roll past this incredible beach house I am sharing with friends from seminary for a week. Nag's Head has become a sanctuary of sorts for me. I don't know that all this has much to do with finding Christ in the unfortunate, except for the fact that we in this group expre...

Do You Have The Time

Isaiah 2:1-5       Romans 13:11-14     Matthew 24:36-44 “Do you have the time To listen to me whine About nothing and everything All at once” So begins the song, Basket Case , released by the band Green Day in 1994. They were one of many voices in pre-September 11 America that lamented the loss of value and meaning in our culture. One might even call them somewhat prophetic if you consider the function of a prophet as speaking the uncomfortable truth that we do not want to see or hear. I must admit that sometimes I feel like the task of preaching to a disinterested world and the discussions of becoming a church that is sensitive to every need, leave me feeling like we might be whining about everything and nothing, all at once. Either that or maybe we are like Bugs Bunny in that old cartoon when he comes up in a forest full of creatures, fleeing from the Tasmanian Devil trying to get someone to stop and tell him what is going on! We surfa...
